We recently visited the Victoria Gallery & Museum in Liverpool to see the ‘Beyond Dredd & Watchmen – The Art of John Higgins’ exhibition.
This is the first major retrospective of the work of Liverpool-born artist John Higgins, who found global success as a comic book artist and writer for 2000AD, DC and Marvel. This is an amazing exhibition whether you are a comic book fan or not!
The exhibition very effectively captures the progression of an idea from a rough draft right through to the finished article. This element is especially interesting to anyone with any kind of creative hobby. The engaging video commentary from the man himself provides a really good insight into his journey, inspirations and collaborations.
There are loads of striking images and insights on the importance of colour and how colour combinations can create moods and signatures.
The exhibition shows Higgins’ original art displayed alongside examples of the work of the artists and science fiction classics that inspired him.
A great exhibition, catch it while you can!!
